EASA Part 66 Basic Training

Being a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer is a highly skilled, prestigious, and deeply responsible career. Achieving the Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML) requires a dedication to excellence: two years of theoretical studies combined with two years of practical experience within an approved maintenance organization.

Once the AML is obtained, licensed mechanics routinely undergo continuation training and gain type-specific practical experience before they are authorized to release an aircraft into service.

Enrollment Requirements & Core Competencies

Flexible Start Dates: Training courses can begin at any time throughout the year.
Age Limits: Candidates can start training at any time, but must be at least 18 years old to apply for the official AML.
Assessment Structure: The curriculum features both theoretical and practical elements, validated by rigorous examinations and practical assessments.
Language Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate sufficient oral and written English language competency. This ensures safe, seamless interactions with maintenance personnel, technical documentation, and the critical procedures required to issue a Certificate of Release to Service (CRS).

Categories of Aircraft Mechanics

According to European Aviation Legislation, Licensed Aircraft Mechanics are divided into distinct categories based on their scope of work. Choose your track to move yourself a phase ahead in the sky:

Category A | Line Maintenance Mechanic

Permits the holder to issue certificates of release to service (CRS) following minor scheduled line maintenance and simple defect rectification tasks.

Category B1 | Mechanical Systems Engineer

Permits the holder to issue CRS following any scheduled and unscheduled maintenance (line, base, modifications) and defect rectification tasks performed on the aircraft structure, power plant, mechanical, electrical, and limited avionic systems.

Applicability: Airplane Turbines, Airplane Pistons, Helicopter Turbines, and Helicopter Pistons.
Bonus: Category B1 AML automatically includes the corresponding Category A privileges.

Category B2 | Avionic Systems Engineer

Permits the holder to issue CRS following any scheduled and unscheduled maintenance (line, base, modifications) and defect rectification tasks performed exclusively on aircraft avionics systems.

Note: Category B2 AML does not include Category A privileges.

Category B3 | Light Aircraft Engineer

Applicable specifically to piston-engine, non-pressurized airplanes with a Maximum Take-Off Mass (MTOM) of 2000 kg and below.

Category C | Base Maintenance Engineer

For advanced candidates seeking the technical knowledge sufficient to release entire aircraft into service following major Base Maintenance checks.

EASA Part 66 Modular Examination

Exam Details & Certification

Passing Standard: A minimum score of 75% is required to pass each module.
Testing Format: Exams comprise a mix of multiple-choice questions, essays, and practical tests.
Global Testing Centers: Complete your exams at approved, secure testing locations across the UK, India, and Qatar under the supervision of approved invigilators.
Recognition: Upon successful completion of each module, you will receive an official Certificate of Recognition, moving you one step closer to your license.
